Modak

- From Our Kitchen

Ukadiche Modak, sounds tempting, right? Imagine how amazing they'll taste when you make them yourself at home with this recipe.

For stuffing:

  • 1 tsp ghee
  • 2 cups coconut, grated
  • 1 cup Madhur Sugar
  • ½ tsp cardamom powder

For dough:

  • 2 cups water
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • 2 cups rice flour

  • Heat ghee in a kadhai and add the grated coconut to it. Saute it until the coconut turns aromatic.
  • Add Madhur sugar to the sauteed coconut. Keep cooking this on a medium flame until the sugar melts.
  • Sprinkle the cardamom powder over this mixture and mix well.
  • Take another pot and boil 2 cups of water in it.
  • Now add ghee and rice flour to the water and mix well until the rice flour absorbs all the water.
  • Pour the mixture onto a plate. Wet your hands and start kneading the dough.
  • Knead until the dough turns soft. Cover it with a glass bowl for some time.
  • Take a ball sized dough and flatten it.
  • With the help of your thumbs start pressing the edges and create a dent in the centre.
  • Scoop a tablespoon of the prepared coconut-sugar stuffing onto the flattened dough.
  • Get the pleats together to form a bundle (Modak shape).
  • Place the modaks in a steamer. Cover and steam it for 10 minutes.
  • Serve the piping hot sweet modaks!
